DR. ANDRAWES | FACULTY ADVISOR
Dr. Andrawes has been on the faculty of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois since the fall of 2006. Prior to joining the University of Illinois, Professor Andrawes worked as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California Irvine and a Design Engineer at Englekirk Partners Consulting Structural Engineers in Santa Ana, California.
SAM KOTTOOR | PRESIDENT
Sam Kottoor is the President of the Illinois Chapter of the Bridge Program and is a senior in Civil Engineering. He traveled to Bolivia in the summer of 2018 to work on the 73-meter footbridge in the community of Chosco. He is passionate about working towards a world that is better than the one we were given. In his free time, he likes to hike, play table tennis, and make comics.
HELEN SUN | VICE PRESIDENT
Helen is a sophomore in civil engineering and wants to primary in construction management. She is the Vice President of the UIUC chapter of Engineers in Action. She had a wild experience bridge building in Bolivia this past summer and can’t wait to advise the travel team and contribute to fundraising this year! Outside this organization, she is an officer in ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) and enjoys dancing, hiking, and photography.
HEATHER GATHMAN | TREASURER
Heather is the current treasurer of Engineers In Action. She is a senior majoring in civil engineering with a focus in structural engineering and construction materials. In her free time, she enjoys running, photography, and reading.
AISHA SYED | MEDIA MANAGER
Aisha is a freshman in civil and environmental engineering and she plans on focusing on environmental engineering. She is a media manager alongside Helen and is in charge of updating this website and working with other members of Engineers In Action to make flyers and social media posts. In her free time, Aisha likes to engage in community work, talk to her family, and learn about different cultures. Aisha is so excited to be a part of the Engineers In Action team this year!
AMY WU | ENGINEERING COUNCIL (EC) LIASON
Amy is a sophomore studying Civil Engineering and intends to pursue Construction Management as her secondary concentration. She is the Engineering Council Liaison for Engineers In Action and is in charge of attending every meeting in the Engineering Council and bring back the ideas from the meeting to the group. Her hobbies include playing musical instruments (such as the piano and the violin), baking, cooking, and ice-skating! She is really looking forward to work along with others in Engineers In Action this year!
BRETT MYSKOWSKI | UNDERGRADUATE ADVISER
Brett Myskowski is a junior in Civil and Environmental Engineering, with a concentration in Transportation Engineering. He was the primary contact for the University of Illinois 2019 bridge build to Flores Rancho, Bolivia and has also spent a semester abroad at National Taiwan University in Taipei. At the University of Illinois, he has done research in Environmental Engineering for Professor Helen Nguyen’s lab, has tutored for CARE and was a Course Assistant for TAM 211 (Introductory Statics). In his spare time, he enjoys traveling the country and the world, especially if it means taking a road trip, and birdwatching.
MARY PELZER | EXTERNAL RELATIONS LEAD
Mary is a freshman studying mechanical engineering. For EIA she serves as the external relations lead, contacting corporations for sponsorships. In what little free time she can find, Mary enjoys reading, sleeping, singing, eating, and playing the piano.
LAUREN HORVATH | FUNDRAISING LEAD
Lauren Horvath is a fundraising lead and is a freshman. She is majoring in mechanical engineering and is minoring in Spanish. As a fundraising lead, she organizes and executes fundraisers and other events to cover costs for the club and designs posters for fundraising events that are put on social media such as Snapchat and Instagram stories to gain awareness about events being held. In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball, watching TV shows and movies, and editing photos.
KEVIN WANG | FUNDRAISING LEAD
Kevin is a fundraising lead for Engineers in Action. He is currently a sophomore majoring in electrical engineering and minoring in business. In his free time, he likes to dream about the sports car he’ll purchase in the near future. He also enjoys fishing the local lakes and rivers around campus.
